昇級・昇段審査 in Bandung

11/10, 11にバンドンに行ってきました。昇級・昇段審査＆稽古会です。
I visited Bandung on 10th and 11th November to hold a Dan & Kyu examination with some practices.


バンドンでも活発に剣道が行われています。昨年まで、日本人学校のM先生（六段）という素晴らしい指南役がいらっしゃいました。彼が去って以降もその教えを引き継ぎ、日本人の先生一名プラス先日弐段を取得しましたローカル剣士が先導しながら活動を続けています。
A number of people is actively playing Kendo in Bandung. The teacher M, who was teaching in the Bandung Japanese School and is a competent Kendo coach, six dan, was leading the local players until last year. Even after he left Bangung, another Japanese five-dan and a local player, who got two-dan recently, took over and maintain the activities.


この地域は大学が多く、剣道人口のを支えているのはその学生たちだということです。本日の昇級・昇段審査も、大学で剣道を始めた約40名もの学生初心者が挑戦してきました。
There are a lot of universities in this region, the students of which has become a major source for Kendo population. In this way, no less than 40 beginners from such universities took the Dan & Kyu exam.

審査はジャカルタ剣友会が主催するもので、FIK公認のものではありません。残念ながらインドネシアはまだFIKに加盟できてませんので・・・。ローカル剣士本人たちもそれは承知ではありますが、審査自体は5段以上6名で実施していますので、今回のように参段までの審査であれば、どこに出してもおかしくないものと自負してます。今回も教士七段2名、六段1名、五段3名という構成でした。
This examination is promoted by the Jakarta Kenyukai, and not authorized by International Kendo Federation (FIK), because Indonesia has not joined FIK yet unfortunately.... The local kendo players are aware of such fact, however, since our judges consist of six persons of five-dan or higer, our Dan & Kyu certifications are, I believe, considered to be equivalent to the official certificate by FIK. We had two seven-dans, a six-dan, and three five-dans this time.





さて、まずは防具を着けていない初心者組。面、小手、胴、小手-面を2本ずつ打突してもらい審査します。一組（3名）が終わるたびに、6名の審査員が集まり意見を出し、基本的には全員一致でもって、与えるべき級を決定していきます。
First, the beginners who didn't wear bougu did their performance. They performed Men-uchi, Kote-uchi, Do-uchi, and Kote-Men-uch twice. Once each group finished their performance, the six judges gathered with their comments to decide a Kyu to be given.

初めて審査員をやらせていただきましたが、とても勉強になりました。上述の通りそれぞれの審査員が意見を持ち寄って最終決定するわけですが、「3人のうち、どの受験者がなぜ、どこが良い（悪い）」というような具体的意見の持ち寄りになります。自分の評価と他の先生方の評価が一致することも多かったですが、たまに違うこともあります。初心者とはいえ、何をどう評価するか適切な判断が必要ですね。評価の基準について自分なりに苦悩しながら判断しましたが、審査終了後にH先生がローカル剣士たちに対して、「九級から八段まで、基本原則は全て同じ。気・剣・体の一致が重要である。」と述べられた講評にシンプルではありますがその基準が集約されていました。
This is the first time for me to be a judge for the examination, thanks to which I've leaned a lot. When we sum up every judge's opinion, each judge need to criticize the candidate logically and specifically, comparing with the other candidates. I've realized the difficulty of judgement and that a judge has to have the proper criteria, which means he has to understand the true Kendo. After all the examination, I was impressed by what H sensei summarized that " The criteria from nine-kyu to eight-dan are same. Our ultimate goal is to make our hitting Ki-Ken-Tai-no-icchi ;Completion of Spirit and Sword and Body".

こちらは、防具組の審査。 2名が参段を受験しましたが、今回は残念ながら見送りとなりました。参段ともなればローカル剣士の中では、指導的立場。ジャカルタでも先日のバンコク審査会で3名の参段が誕生したばかりです。

This is an examination with bougu. Two candidates tried in vain to take three-dan unfortunately. A three-dan is the highest dan of Indonesian players so far and should be a leader of Indonesian players, so they ware judged more severely accordingly.

さて、翌日はヨリス道場での稽古会。なんとメンバーの一員であるヨリスさん、我が家に道場をもっています。いやー、実に羨ましいですねですね。しかも、私が参加するようになって2代目の道場です。2年程前にはここに新築で家を建てたようですが、前宅にも立派な道場がありました。道場が気に入らなかったら家ごと引っ越したのでしょうか・・・・？

さて、稽古のほうはといいますと、日頃我ら日本人に指導を請うチャンスの無いバンドン剣士のために、ちょっと工夫を凝らしたものとしました。


本日はS先生主導による「面打ち」だけの徹底指導！

S先生の分かりやすい解説をもって、左足の引きつけ、間合いの重要性などなどを指導。加えて、6人の日本人に12名のバンドン剣士だったので、1先生2名の少人数指導体制。皆、とても納得顔で非常に上達していました。いい企画でした。



その後、バンドン剣士たちには、一組づつ2分程度の時間で地稽古をやってもらいました。皆に見守られる緊張感と、終了後の先生方のコメントに、これまた彼らにとってはいい勉強になったのではないでしょうか。

その後、皆で稽古して締めくくりました。
